What School Should Be.

I never thought I would dive into these waters.  Sharing a political post was never my intention when starting this blog.  But once I started to think more about what I wanted to write about, I realized that this does not come down to politics.  Violence in schools is not boiled down to sides.  It is a human issue.  Whatever your political stand-point is, I hope you can agree with me that a school is supposed to be a place where kids learn to love learning.  If we can put our egos aside, have conversations with one another, and challenge our leaders’ policies, that is when we will see a change.

school should be a place where children love to learn.

where teenagers get excited for what their futures hold.

a gathering place, a place where all students feel accepted.

school is a place where minds can mingle.  where conversations and laughter fill up the classroom.

a building filled with the histories of world leaders of the past, inspiring world leaders of the future.

a place where love and acceptance, knowledge and peace become one.

school is a place where all children should feel safe.  a place where teenagers can prepare for the lives ahead of them, not brace themselves with the thought that their bright futures might end that day.

a school’s purpose is to educate the minds of the future.  a place where students can help one another navigate life.

this is what school should be.

Violence will not silence us.  By nurturing love and making our voices heard, we are part of the change.  Here in the US, we are exposed to the ability to have an education.  This ability is something people around the world dream of.  We must not take advantage of this.  We must do better.  Be part of the conversation, and make the world a better place by spreading love and light to those around us.

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”
